Digital Weaving Norway’s visit to the Netherlands
by admin
This past week, the team at Digital Weaving Norway was on a whirlwind tour through the Netherlands, diving into the world of tech-driven textiles and design innovation! Here’s a quick recap of our inspiring visits to Waag Futurelab in Amsterdam, Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, and Enschede Textielstad.
 Stop 1: Waag Futurelab, Amsterdam
Waag Futurelab, known for its groundbreaking approach to technology and social change, left us captivated with its focus on ethical and sustainable practices in the digital realm. As an interdisciplinary lab, Waag champions projects that merge design, art, and technology to address societal challenges. We explored cutting-edge textiles with embedded technology and sustainable production methods that align with our values at Digital Weaving Norway. It’s incredible to see the potential of weaving in enhancing human-centered design—watch this space for exciting collaborations!
Stop 2: Dutch Design Week (DDW), Eindhoven
Next, we headed to Dutch Design Week— one of the largest design events in Northern Europe! The event buzzed with more than 2,600 designers showcasing everything from sustainable materials to experimental textiles. We were inspired by the innovative use of recycled fibers, bio-based materials, and smart fabrics that are transforming the textile landscape. Meeting other creators in the field reminded us how design can be a powerful driver for positive change, from sustainable fashion to immersive textile art. Highlights included workshops on digital fabrication techniques and panel discussions on the future of textiles in a circular economy.
 Stop 3: Enschede Textielstad
Our journey wrapped up at Enschede Textielstad, a textile production space in Enschede. Known for its dedication to eco-friendly and responsible fabric production, Enschede Textielstad bridges traditional weaving techniques with modern machinery. Touring their production facilities, we saw firsthand how sustainable textiles are created using ethical and innovative methods—a true alignment with our mission to promote sustainable digital weaving. We were inspired by their focus on transparency, local sourcing, and a commitment to reducing environmental impact.
