Lecture at KHIO and Opening of Vevft studio in Oslo

by admin
From Carole Frances Lung’s thought-provoking lecture at KHiO to the grand opening of VEVFT Studio Oslo – Friday, October 9, was buzzing with activity! We were there for both events, soaking up fresh perspectives on textile art, activism and digital weaving, and celebrating the growing creative textile community in Oslo!
Two Decades of Textile Activism: Carole Frances Lung at KHiO
Our first stop was the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO), where we attended an inspiring lecture by Carole Frances Lung (they/them), titled “Taking Inventory: Frau Fiber’s Persistence Against the Global Apparel Industry.”
The talk offered a fascinating look at two decades of Lung’s work as Frau Fiber, a performance persona created to investigate and challenge the histories, practices and ongoing realities of the global apparel industry. Through performance, activism and textile-making, Lung’s work raises important questions about labour, production and the value of making things by hand.
Earlier in the week, Carole had visited our production facilities in Moss, where they were introduced to the TC2 loom technology, its manufacturing process and the global market for digital jacquard weaving.
A New Creative Hub: VEVFT Studio Opens in Oslo!
Later that same day, we headed to Prindsen Hage (in Central Oslo) for the grand opening of VEVFT Studio Oslo! After months of planning and hard work, VEVFT officially opened the doors to its new studio, welcoming friends, family, artists, collaborators and members of Oslo’s creative community for an evening of celebration.

The opening marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for VEVFT, with a space dedicated to textile art, creative exploration and collaboration. What makes this particularly exciting for us at Digital Weaving Norway is that VEVFT is home to a TC2 loom, opening up new possibilities for artists and designers interested in exploring the intersection of traditional weaving and digital technology.

For now, the studio offers rental opportunities to experienced weavers who can document previous experience with the TC2 loom or completion of a relevant TC2 course. Those new to digital weaving can also look forward to beginner courses and private one-to-one training sessions, which will be introduced in the coming months.
- Jon Pettersen: Associate professor at Bergen Academy of Art and Design
- Jon gifted shuttles to his erstwhile students Iben, Håvrad and Alexandra
The team behind VEVFT includes Alexandra Jegerstedt, who handles communications; Iben Isabell Krogsgaard, Workshop Manager; Håvard Kranstad, Weaver; and Christine Lunde Hallor, Managing Director.
It was wonderful to be part of the celebrations and see another creative space for textile innovation taking shape in Oslo. We look forward to following VEVFT’s journey and seeing what emerges from this new creative hub!
