Nordic Textile Art delegates visit Digital Weaving Norway!

Nordic Textile Art delegates visit Digital Weaving Norway!
by

From 9-11 June, 2022, delegates from across the Nordic countries traveled to Norway to participate in the Nordic Textile Art Conference. Aptly titled as “Gather up the Loose Ends”, the aim of the Conference was to offer the grounds for new collaborations, provide knowledge and understanding of textile art in the Nordic countries and the opportunity to meet again, to make new and refresh old relationships!

While the program for the Conference was spread over four days, DAY 1  was kicked off with a visit to Digital Weaving Norway/Tronrud Engineering in Hønefoss, Norway. There were over 40 delegates visiting, all with varying backgrounds and experiences, but with a common interest in textiles!

At the onset, Vibeke Vestby (Manager: TC2 Looms) gave them introduction of how the loom was developed way back in the 1990’s – in collaboration with Tronrud Engineeing – followed by talking about the woven art installations and upholstery fabrics (used in-house) by fiber artists Lise Frølund and Grethe Sørensen. The delegates also got a demonstration of the weaving process on the Tc2 loom!

One of the highlights of the program was the talk by two of the existing TC2 customers, where they presented some of their recent woven works. Eli Skogsrud is an accomplished Norwegian fiber artist and was one of the first ones to go for the TC2 loom (Gen 2) after it was launched in 2012. Eli loves to play with colour (pictures below).

Anne Kari Ødegård also presented her works : she works cross-media as an artist, designer and concept developer. During the lockdown, she got what we call a baby TC2 loom (1-Wide) and started the home based micro-weaving mill PRYD.

We are so grateful to Eli and Anne Kari for taking the time to show some of their works, means a lot! And to Beatrijs, for backing us and always being there (for decades now) and yes, thanks also for clicking all the pictures during the NTA visit 🙂

After being at DWN/ Tronrud Engineering, the delegates proceeded to the Kistefos Museum for lunch and further on to Grinaker Vev, a weaving mill making damask fabrics, mostly with natural fibers.
